about

"When the whole world is feed to be fed to nothing, the DOGFOOD TOWERS will continue to eat"

For the 10th anniversary of the recording and release of our album DOGFOOD TOWERS we're making it available online for the first time ever via bandcamp. DOGFOOD TOWERS was a turning point of an album for Buck Gooter. By early 2010 we'd already been a band for over four years, played over one hundred shows, and self released nine albums. We put together our most aggressive and tightly focused set of songs to date and took them up to Inner Ear Studio where Don Zientara worked his legendary magic on the tracks, recording them in the red, and spitting out the album in one whirlwind of a day. DOGFOOD TOWERS always held a warm spot in our hearts and we played some of the songs from it up until the end of Terry's tenure in the band.

Some folks in our hometown of Harrisonburg, Va refer to the colossal grain elevators around town as DOGFOOD TOWERS because of the way they make the town smell. The songs were definitely inspired by always feeling as insignificant as fodder in Harrisonburg. It seems worth noting that DOGFOOD TOWERS was made during the era of Buck Gooter when I was really into gadgets so in addition to singing I play noise guitar, electric tambourine, stylophone, and theremin across these jams. Terry plays OUIJA GUITAR and of course croons away. DOGFOOD TOWERS was originally released on cassette and CD, with different covers for each version, and sold at shows and through mail order. The cover for this digital version is the original insert photo which shows us in Terry's home surrounded by his phenomenal art. Terry is wearing a sweater knit to look like a map of the world that I found in a dumpster and he wore it until it was completely shredded. I'm holding up a piece of paper containing a line from the titular track that was written as a note of hope to anyone feeling stuck:

"Part of me is smoke that escapes the DOGFOOD TOWERS and is free".

May we all be.
